A Night Filled With Questions....

Last night, mostly between 2am and 5am, Amanda went to work on the 'what ifs' again.  Why would people lie about finding a natural cure, why is information carried out by scientists on alternative treatments so quickly disregarded, what if I'm meant to try this, to show others it can be done.  That an operation to remove a tumour in addition to chemo and radiotherapy aren't a necessary evil of the cancer treatment process at all.  The body heals itself from all sorts of things, she said.  She's right, it does!  There are plenty of things,
generally found in our country, from various bacteria and insect bites etc, that our bodies cannot deal with on their own.  This is one of the reasons that malaria is still one of (if not the biggest) the biggest killers in the world, our bodies cannot usually fight it on it's own, it needs a little help.  Yes, it's true that some indigenous african population have encountered a mutation in their red blood cells.  They were born with slightly odd shaped eurythrocytes (haemoglobin carrying red blood cells), this is known as sickle cell anemia.  These lucky (no honest, they are lucky, even though they have anemia) souls can survive malaria, due to the way malaria attacks the body.  Therefore, while others slump on roadside, they get to pass their genes on, by way of having a family.  So what they lose in numbers of red blood cells, they gain in malaria defence.  Basically they can contract malaria, and suffer no symptoms or problems from it.  The point I'm making here, is that everyone doesn't get cancer, maybe some of us carry a certain gene, or enzyme which stops us developing it.  Who knows, it could actually be a food that activates the carcinogenic cells within us (that we all experience from time to time, or permanently), but who knows, it may not be, and that's where all our worries lie.

This is Amanda's finding for this morning.  Please leave your thoughts and comments.

  2. Hmmm, difficult. That first link certainly provides some food for thought (excuse the pun!) on the "Anti-Cancer" diet and her story is very inspiring.

However, someone is unlikely to write an article along the lines of 'I tired this approach and it didn't work', so you end up only hearing one side of the story. Potentially, the stories of an absolutely minuscule (but very vocal) minority of the people who take this course of treatment could be resulting in the effectiveness of the treatment being massively overstated. Elsewhere in medicine this might be considered unethical?

You both have all our love and support through this, like I said before it wont be easy and anything you can do to mentally put Amanda in a positive frame of mind about it is good, whether that is eating a cabbage diet or doing hand stands in pink pyjamas. If Amanda believes it is helping it will help, but it is unlikely to be enough on its own medicine and surgery (if needed) is the primary fix. I have a friend who have tried just about every alternative therapy there is, and I am happy to put you both in contact with her, she is still surviving and has been fighting the evil bastard (Bowel Cancer) for quite a few years now and is one of the most strong and stubborn people I know, she gives her doctors hell every time, challenging them, the type of treatment, and the next steps. But she keeps coming back to the traditional methods because at the end of the day, that is where the best odds lay.
Keep smiling and doing all the normal things that make you both happy, if you want us we will be here for you, if you don't want to talk about it that is fine too, its your own journey and you both know what is best for yourselves in approaching it, just know that however you approach this we will be here for you if you need us.

  4. I fully back Amanda hopping on one foot, or wearing pink pyjamas.... or anything else, she has my full backing, infact she is upstairs doing her pink pyjama hopping workout as we speak. I won't push her to make any choices. Each and every one of us has our own life, and we must make our own life choices, we all hope to make the right ones. Some choices aren't black and white, and have many combinations of outcomes. The riskier ones tend to be where the outcome is black or white. I'm rubbish at making decisions, and one of such vast importance, well I would be struggling as much if not more than my wonderful wife is. She struggles more than most, due to her incredible faith and courage.
